July 26, 2023

Cami Dellamore, West Division Marketing Coordinator, appeared on ABC4鈥檚 morning talk show, 鈥Good Things Utah,鈥 in a segment titled 鈥淒eveloping Homes and Communities of Workers to Achieve Construction Excellence,鈥 sponsored by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), to discuss the organization鈥檚 new 鈥淕RACE鈥 initiative and the evolving role of women in the construction industry.

GRACE 鈥 which stands for Gracious Responses Achieve Construction Excellence, is an empowerment initiative of the Associated Builders and Contractors Utah Chapter aimed at uplifting women in the construction industry by promoting education, mentorship, and leadership opportunities.

During the interview, Cami, alongside Mercedes Kapp, Human Resources and Safety Director for Kapp Construction, discussed the importance of changing stereotypes and ways of getting women increasingly involved in what has traditionally been a male-dominated industry.

鈥淚 think it is important for women to consider careers in construction because there are so many different and interesting opportunities for women in the industry, all offering nice wages and a healthy work culture,鈥 Cami explained.

Mrs. Kapp also shed light on the culture and changes in diversity within the industry over the years.

鈥淓veryone in construction is proud to be in it. The industry is very welcoming and feels like a family. It does not matter where you come from or what your background is, everyone is accepted, and everyone gets along.鈥

鈥淥ver the past few years, I have noticed an increasing number of people coming from different fields and wanting a change in career because they can make more money in this field.鈥

When quizzed on what her response would be to women feeling they might lack the background and skills required to venture into construction, Cami explained,

鈥淚n most cases, we will train you and pay you while training you. There are several opportunities available, and you can come in and learn how to do what interests you. You don鈥檛 necessarily have to know everything. So, if you are looking for a change in your career, come check us out. We have so many different and interesting opportunities.鈥

鈥淚f you are interested, contact Associated Builders and Contractors, and we can help put you in touch with someone.鈥
